Forest Animal Rescue needs your help!

One of our projects to benefit wild animals is to be responsible stewards of the environment that we share with them.

We have joined the National litter awareness program by sponsoring multiple “Adopt-a-Highway” locations in two Florida counties so far. This project provides a cleaner, greener environment for humans and animals alike, and is a short-simple way to make a real difference.

The cleanup date we are recruiting volunteers for right now is in Citrus County, FL. We have more dates coming soon in Marion County, .

WHERE:

Between mile markers 3-5 on W Ozello Trail, Crystal River, FL- the road leading into the pristine St. Martin’s Aquatic Preserve. Parking on the roadside is limited, so we will be meeting at a nearby restaurant to carpool (and have lunch and beverages afterward!)

WHEN:

In early celebration of Earth Day, we will be meeting at 9:00 am on Friday, April 21, 2023. We hope to complete the 2-mile road cleanup in 2-3 hours.

Backwater Fin’s Seafood Restaurant

THE REWARD:

Not only will we will all have an opportunity to hang out at Backwater Fin’s after the cleanup is complete to share our sense of accomplishment and visit for a while….

They are generously offering a 15% discount on food purchases to the Forest Animal Rescue volunteers while we are there!

The votes are in! One our new bears will be named ‘Oatmeal’!

Illinois State University volunteers are hard workers!

Alternative Break Students from Illinois State University are helping the animals for the second time

42 students arrived on Monday to spend 4 days of hard work during their spring break. They are working on the construction of our 4-acre bear habitat and making great progress!

This same group was here last year and constructed the fencing around our horse pasture – we were lucky enough to have them join us again.

We had another really productive weekend with a great turnout of regular volunteers, new volunteers and the Animal Warriors group! Thank you everyone for all of your habitat wall and roof building, hog ringing, wire cutting, concrete block unloading, tractor fixing, dirt raking, photographing and “butt workout” panel dragging! WOW – what a crew!

We can do this!! The deadline to move the animals is approaching fast, but with this kind of help we can make it happen!
