It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Kurt Stoner, the beloved co-founder of Forest Animal Rescue.

Kurt peacefully passed away on May 31, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. His devoted wife, best friend, and fellow co-founder of F.A.R., Lisa, was by his side during his final moments, as they were on a lifelong dream trip to Africa. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Kurt was a visionary and a compassionate leader whose unwavering dedication to the care and protection of animals inspired countless lives. His passion, integrity, and tireless work laid the foundation of our organization, leaving a lasting legacy for animals and people alike.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date for family and close friends. In honor of Kurt’s lifelong commitment to animal welfare, donations may be made to Forest Animal Rescue in his memory.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Kurt’s family, friends, and all those inspired by his remarkable journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Kurt’s honor to continue his life’s work at Forest Animal Rescue, PO Box 514, Silver Springs, FL 34489 or securely online using the button below.

We did it! Thanks to the generosity of a donor, Forest Animal Rescue has purchased a 60-acre island in the St Martins Marsh Aquatic Preserve (in Crystal River, FL) This island provides shelter and nesting areas to countless water birds.

We have observed virtually every bird native to this habitat taking advantage of the trees and fresh water pond on this island, including eagles, osprey, spoonbills and even flamingos!

We will be protecting and restoring the habitat by removing any invasive plants (like Braziian pepper) and helping to ensure that the wildlife remains undisturbed on the island.

This will also be a perfect place for us to release rehabilitated wildlife native to this habitat as needed, since that requires privately owned land.

Stay tuned for more updates and photos!

Everyone knows about Black Friday – and then there is Cyber Monday…

Our personal favorite is Giving Tuesday – and it Starts Today!

Giving Tuesday is a beautiful reminder of the power of generosity—a day for us all to come together and make a real difference in the world as we kick off the holiday season.

This year we are raising $2,000 to help wild animals with Forest Animal Rescue. When you donate, you’ll also get to show off your kindness by uploading a special photo of your own!

Even if donating isn’t possible, sharing this message can create an impact too. Every action helps!

Thank you for caring and for being a part of something bigger. Together, we can change lives. 💚

Join the movement and donate!

Hurricane Milton
Here we go again! We made it through Hurricane Helene with only minor tree damage at the sanctuary (although we incurred severe flood damage personally)

We have gathered things up again and secured everything for Milton…Same thing, different week. We are praying for all of the people in Florida that are as exhausted as we are. Everyone stay safe!
