We lost our beloved Zoey today to age-related disease. She came to us in 2016 at the age of 17. We only had her with us for three years, but it was long enough to see her thrive in our care.

Zoey was rescued from a horrible situation in Colorado where big cats and bears were bred repeatedly to produce cubs. the cubs were used for photo opportunities and ‘cub petting’ until they grew too large to handle; then the cubs were sent out back to languish in tiny cages until they were old enough to breed.

Fortunately, in 2016, she and over a hundred other animals broke free of that torment. They were rescued by a network of true sanctuaries across the United States. Zoey and five other animals came to Forest Animal Rescue.

For the first time, Zoey was able to run and play in a large, forested habitat. She loved her new home and was a beautiful, happy tigress with constant friendly “chuffs’ for her caregivers.

Sadly, her advanced age began to show recently. She took a rapid turn for the worse, and it was evident that, no matter what we tried to do for her, it was her time to go.

We only had a short time with Zoey, but we are happy to have had the opportunity to care for her and to show her how life at a true sanctuary can be.

Our newest arrival has made it to the sanctuary safely. Her name was chosen by popular vote and we love it!

Destiny is in a smaller portion of her habitat for the night. We will give her a day to adjust to her new surroundings before opening up the rest of her habitat to climb into the trees. It looks like she will be at home quickly!

The rehab facility gave us the tiny collar they cut off from her when she came in. She was obviously a released or escaped ‘pet’

She had grown since the collar was put on her and it would have choked her as she grew. She was never trained to hunt, so she was literally starving. She was extremely thankful to have the restrictive collar cut away.

Now she will have the best care possible, for the rest of her life at Forest Animal Rescue. She will never worry about starving because she doesn’t know how to hunt. She will receive wholesome, nutritious food , prepared by people who are watching out for her.

Destiny will have excellent veterinary care and eventually have playmates of her own kind in a non-breeding, true sanctuary setting.

Destiny already seems to realize how lucky she is. She came out of hiding to explore and greet us (from a distance) only minutes after being turned out into her habitat.

This poor bobcat was an attempted pet in Oklahoma. She either escaped or was released into the wild to fend for herself.

Emaciated and starving, she had a collar that was so tightly embedded around her neck it had to be cut off.

She weighed half of what she should, and showed old injuries, scrapes and a broken toe.

Fortunately, the wildlife rehabilitation facility that rescued her knew she would need lifetime care at a true sanctuary. She would never be able to hunt or feed herself in the wild since she had been raised by people.

They reached out in search of a true sanctuary and found Forest Animal Rescue.

We will provide her with excellent care for the rest of her life…..This starts with giving her a name. Will you help?
