Powerline Wildfire in the Ocala National Forest

We are relieved to share that the 750-acre wildfire that started at 2 pm yesterday a few miles from the sanctuary has been contained.

Five helicopters dropped water and three fixed-wing tankers dropped retardant on the flames until late last night.

It was a stressful night…

Eventually, the evacuation orders for homes near the fire were lifted and although there are still 500 acres burning, the fire is 50% contained and no longer a threat to the sanctuary.

There will be smoke in the area for at least another day or two.

As long as things go the way they expect the sanctuary and animals will be fine.

Thank you to everyone for all of your concern.
